Positive Ageing

Botox treatments are not about freezing the face or removing expression.

In my clinic, the goal is:
• Balance, not paralysis
• Softening, not erasing
• Prevention, not overcorrection

When guided by careful assessment and medical expertise, Botox treatment is a subtle, effective tool that supports healthy ageing rather than trying to fight it.

What is Botox?

Botulinum toxin is one of the most widely used and researched treatments in medical aesthetics.

Botox can soften expression lines, prevent deeper wrinkles from forming, and create a more relaxed, refreshed appearance without changing how you look.

This clinic uses the leading brand, BOTOX.

Why do I prescribe Botox for my patients?

Botox is used to temporarily relax specific facial muscles that are responsible for repetitive expressions.

These repeated movements over time can lead to dynamic lines (visible when you move your face) and, eventually, static wrinkles (visible even at rest).

Beyond aesthetics…

Botox also has medical applications such as treating teeth grinding, migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle tension — highlighting its long-standing role in medicine, not just cosmetics- see my earlier blog on this!

Which parts of the face might benefit from Botox?

  1. Upper face

Forehead lines – horizontal lines from repeatedly lifting the brow

Glabellar lines – frown lines that create a tired or angry look

Crows feet – radial lines at the corners of the eyes on smiling

  1. Midface

Bunny Lines – small creases on the nose on smiling

Brow lift – Botox can lift the eyebrows making appearance fresher

Gummy Smile – reduce the visible gum on smiling

  1. Lower face

Dimpled Chin – smoother contour to the chin area

Downturned mouth- improve the sad look of the mouth when muscles are pulling the corners of the mouth down.

Jawline slimming- usually this involves Botox to the muscle at the angle of the jaw.

Technique and experience is key

This is not a “one-size-fits-all” procedure.

A medical assessment includes:

  • Facial analysis at rest and in motion to understand how your muscles work together
  • Identification of wrinkle patterns, muscle strength, and asymmetries
  • Discussion of your goals — subtle softening vs preventative treatment
  • A full medical history

This detailed evaluation ensures the treatment plan is tailored to your facial anatomy, rather than simply following standard injection points.

Seeing a medically trained professional is essential. Facial anatomy is complex, and safe outcomes rely on deep anatomical knowledge, clinical judgement, and the ability to recognise and manage rare complications.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox has been used medically for over 30 years and is one of the most studied injectable treatments worldwide.

When administered correctly:

  • It remains local to the injected muscle
  • It does not travel through the body
  • It does not accumulate over time

The effects are temporary and fully reversible. Your body gradually breaks down the product naturally, completely.

Typically:

  • Results begin to appear within 3–7 days
  • Full effect is seen at around 2 weeks
  • The effect gradually fades over 8–12 weeks

As the product wears off, muscle activity slowly returns to its natural level. There are no permanent changes to the muscle or nerves, and there are no long-term adverse effects from appropriate, repeated treatment.

Ongoing Treatment Is Recommended

If Botox works well for you and you like the results, ongoing treatment is usually advised to maintain the effect.

When treatment is stopped:

  • Facial muscles simply revert to their usual activity
  • Expressions return to how they were before treatment
  • Wrinkles may reappear and, over time, can deepen again due to repeated movement

Regular treatment can help:

  • Prevent dynamic lines from becoming permanently etched into the skin
  • Reduce the progression of expression-related wrinkles
  • Maintain a smoother, more relaxed appearance over time

Botox is a safe, temporary, and well-established medical treatment when performed correctly.

Used thoughtfully, Botox can help you look fresher, prevent deeper lines from forming, and maintain facial harmony — all while wearing off naturally and completely over time.

And no ‘frozen’ face!
